An Acoustic Experience
L & B
Walter Lathouwers and Bart Barbier.
Opposites by look, complementary musical.
There is no better way to describe this Belgium based singer songwriter duo.
Walter started playing guitar at age 8. As a self-taught singer-songwriter he sang and played wherever he could. Through the influence of the bands of the early 70's, he evolved as a musician with a broad interest in blues, pop and rock.
Bart started playing classical guitar at age 7. In his teens he discovered the electric guitar and sounds of Jimi Hendrix and Richie Blackmore, which were the first main influences. In 1996 he joined the 'De Til, Music Univerity' in Antwerp. Afterwards he became a guitar teacher and, occasionally, a session guitarist.
They started writing music together in 2015.
Very early on they realised that this process was going far to smooth and in the fall of 2015 they deceided their music needed a platform.
So the 'acoustic experience' was born and a first try out gig was planned for febuary 2016.
The reactions were so positive that in the next weeks, new gigs were flying in.
A few months later they composed more than enough songs to fill a complete record, and the plans for their first full album were born.
In june 2016 they entered the Sputnik Studio in Schoten and recorded their first full album 'No Time for Rock 'n Roll' in an intense period of just 3 days.
The album was released independent in september 2016.
It features 11 original songs and 1 remarkable cover of Bob Dylan's 'Times they are a-Changin'.
The music has a big 'in your face' feeling in the most positive way and shows a remarkable musical craftmanship in songwriting and performance. Their style is a sweet marriage of all American and roots based styles of music. From heartland folk, rock to delta blues and so much more.
Gradually towards the end of 2016 some local radiostations in Belgium and the Netherlands started broadcasting their music.
At this moment, beginning 2017, they are full speed ahaid in promoting the released album and writing new material for the next step.
L&B is live already joined by singer An Cornillie and they also started rehearsing with a full band.
Born in the summer of '75' . Started playing classical guitar at age 7. In his teens he discovered the electric guitar and sounds of Jimi Hendrix and Richie Blackmore, which were the first main influences. In 1996 he joined the 'De Til, Music Univerity' in Antwerp as a daytime student. At that time he was know as a guitar 'shredder'. After graduation he immediately became guitar teacher in the school along with guitar teaching jobs in other music schools. At that time he also became a session guitarist and toured Europe with Belgian Artist Helmut Lotti, who was in his prime 'goes classic' years in that period.
But, there was always a tendency to the blues and playing own music. So he developped a much wider musical 'landscape' which includes slide guitar, finger picking, acoustic guitar music with open and alternate tunings
After touring for over 10 years with the very succesfull heavy rock / party band Catch-Up ! he now is developping a solo (duo) career with 'Lathouwers & Barbier' who bring own music that ranges from delta blues, americana to singer songwriter.
He also is a founding and active member of the rock cover band 'Hi-Jack' and the 'Rusty Blue Feelgood Music Band'
Walter Lathouwers started his career at the age of 8 when he graced a party in an Antwerp football canteen with his first guitar. By then the music wbecame a major part of his life. As a self-taught singer-songwriter he sang and played his guitar wherever it could.
Through the influence of thebands of the early 70's, he evolved as a musician with a broad interest in blues, pop and rock and played along with everything he heard on the radio. At 16 he formed his first band playing songs from The Beatles, Bob Marley, the Rolling Stones and Jimmy Hendrix. During that period he came into contact with the Blues through a vinyl of BB Kings' Live at Cook County Jail.
With Private Line, his first "real" band, he played on Humo's rock rally in 1984. After the split in 1985 he was active as a singer songwriter on all kinds of events. In 95 he founded, together with some musical friends, "One More Time". An acoustic band, touring all across Flanders. In 2001 he joined the popular rock band The Vibes an did more than 300 performances in Belgium and the Netherlands. He contiued playing with this band for 12 years.
Meanwhile, he also toured with The Time Breakers, a rock group founded by Tom Van der Stee. In between, he continued to compose songs.
In 2012 he and Bart formed Rusty Blue Feelgood Music Band, with a unique sound and a gathering of friends and good musicians. Gradually he felt ready to begin songwriting with Bart and the duo Lathouwers and Barbier was born : the ultimate wish was fulfilled. Composing and performing music alongside a top class musician
From her early childhood, An was always singing on every occasion. From the living room to the 'hairbrush' in the bathroom.
A few years later she joined the childern's choir 'Jado' in Essen-Wildert (Belgium) and at the age of 19 she started her first band : Casual (1 piano / 2 voices). Later on she was also a member the band Aeryn Sun, in which she experienced writing and performing original music for the first time
Further on up the musical road she joined the cover band The Frontbrakes, in which she is still an active member today.
Always on a quest for the right musical feel she experienced a wide range of genres, untill one day she met with Walter and Bart. For her this was the beginning of a beautifull trinity ...
